We’re a bit different from your traditional pub – we brew our own, unique craft beers on-site in our brew-tiful microbrewery! As well as matching every dish on our menu to a style of beer we also love cooking with beer –so be sure to keep an eye out for recipes that make use of the beers we brew!

English Style Ale - Session Bitter
Traditional, Caramel, Bitter – Medium Copper in colour with a toasty malt complexity and earthy, resiny and floral character In tribute to the pub being once-known as Langtry’s after its most famous guest and mistress of the then Prince of Wales, we’ve named our session bitter after the colourful and flamboyant Lillie Langtry – a perfect match as both are bursting with character
English Style Ale - Golden Ale
Golden, Hoppy, Refreshing – Dry and refreshing golden beer made with only Pale Malt and British hops with an earthy, herbal, hop character The 1986 athletic season turned into a ‘gold rush’ for Portsmouth Grammar’s ex-Head Boy, Roger Black, who spectacularly scooped up gold medals for the 400m Sprint at both the Commonwealth and European Championships
IPA - Traditional IPA
Bitter, Citrusy, Hoppy – Large amounts of hops deliver an intense piney and citrusy aroma and flavour in a bitter, easy drinking Pale Ale 9366 is the number of miles from Portsmouth to Ayres Rock, which Portsmouth-born Henry travelled before becoming Premier of South Australia none other than five times, and had the accolade of having Ayers Rock named after him. Enjoy a pint of our dry and refreshing IPA in his honour.
American Style Ale - Amber Ale
Ruby, Hoppy, Caramel – full of rich caramel malts matched to American hops and just bursting with character A fitting tribute to Portsmouth-educated, talented screen writer and novelist James Clavell, who’s greatest accolade was the 1963 block-buster film The Great escape – also bursting with great characters; Steve McQueen, James Garner, Charles Bronson, to name but a few…

Black, Smooth, Chocolate A black, smooth and rich stout with hints of chocolate and coffee In tribute to Sir Arthur Conan Dolyle who, whilst living in Portsmouth, penned his first novel ‘A Study in Scarlet’ featuring the now iconic Sherlock Holmes’ and his famous companion Dr Watson, whose character was inspired by a Forensic doctor Doyle knew in Edinburgh called Dr Joseph Bell
Wheat Beer - Witbier
Cloudy, Refreshing, Citrusy The famous 1943 poem of Nobel Prize winner, and one-time resident of Portsmouth Rudyard Kipling, which opens with the line ‘You may talk o’ gin and beer…’ is a fitting tribute for our elegant and refreshing witbier
Belgian Style - Saison
Aromatic, Fruity, Yeasty – Aromatic with fruity, peppery and hoppy characteristics; low in malt character with a dry finish In deference to our beloved Inspector Clouseau (aka, local lad Peter Sellers) who features in the iconic ‘Pink Panther’ films, we’ve named our lively, citrusy Saison in his honour.
IPA - Tropical IPA
Hazy, Citrusy, Hoppy Historic tribute to Captain Bligh’s infamous ship ‘Bounty’ which sailed from Portsmouth on that fated journey to Tahiti. As life on the tropical island was preferred to the harsh existence onboard the 18th century cargo ship, the crew refused to leave and created mutiny, rather than return to the ship….
IPA - Black IPA
Black, Hoppy, Bitter Famous producer Brian Eno, of U2, Roxy Music, Ultravox, Talking Heads and Cold Play fame, has certainly left his mark on Portsmouth; joining the Sinfonia in the 70’s he helped to create the student orchestra (originally started as a one-off, tongue-in-cheek art performance) into a cultural phenomenon of the decade by producing their first two albums
